Just like any other kind of computer, Macs have common issues. Users love the superior performance. but no computer runs perfectly all the time. Little things can wind up causing a major headache over time.
Thankfully, there are plenty of solutions to the simple problems. When you run into these common MacBook issues, make sure that you implement the following solutions and get things working the way they did before.
Email Won’t Update
It is a very simple one but when the MacBook email is not updating, it can cause major frustration. Email can stop working for a number of reasons, but it might be something simple like the app being hampered by your firewall or your account being offline. Like other Apple solutions, this one is a very quick fix.
You can refresh the Mail shortcut by clicking on the icon and choosing “Get all new mail.” If that doesn’t do the trick, and your messages aren’t downloading, then there is another route to go. Open Mail and choose the Mailbox option. If “Take all accounts online” is active, click on it. The final thing to do is check your network connection and ensure that it is working properly.
Safari isn’t Working
Safari, the browser that comes built right into your Mac, can become the quickest way to browse the internet. A majorly frustrating problem can be trying to open up Safari only to find that it isn’t working properly. There are a number of issues that can get you to this point, there are a handful of directions to go in.
Try to simply re-launch Safari at first. If it doesn’t work, try getting rid of any potentially faulty plugins. Go into Safari, click “Preferences,” then find “Extensions.” Anything that was downloaded right before the issue started should be removed. Finally, go into “Preferences,” then click “Privacy” and remove all website data. That can clear website data that may have been dragging Safari down.
The Sound isn’t Working
When you click somewhere on your Mac desktop, you may not notice it at first, but it is possible that the sound isn’t working. There are some simple problems and others not so much. The first thing to do is to check the ports and any hardware. It might be as easy as properly plugging your speakers into the correct port.
If it isn’t a hardware issue, you’ll need to take another path. This is where resetting the controller can be the best option. Go to Finder, then Applications, then Utility. Launch the Activity Monitor and look for “coreaudiod” from the list of processes. Forcefully close it, then launch iTunes and try out one of the music files to see if that does it.
Trackpad Stops Working
If you aren’t big on using a mouse, the trackpad is going to be your go-to option. When it stops working, it can present a major convenience issue. It is also something that should not wait and should be fixed immediately.
Start by checking the accessibility settings. Go to Finder, then System Preferences, then Accessibility. Click on “Mouse and Trackpad” and then check the accessibility section. Trackpad Options will offer further solutions as well. You can also check the trackpad’s firmware. Sometimes, it can be a while between updates, which can cause performance issues. Go to the Software Update section in the Applications menu and look for updates. You can likewise go straight to the Apple Store to look for any updates. If it still isn’t working, it could be a physical issue that require you to replace the trackpad entirely.
